More car seat information….
Rear-facing infant or convertible seat- a child must be rear-facing until the child is over one year of age and over 20 pounds, never in front of an active air bag. FYI: some are promoting infants to stay rear facing until age 2 now, but it is not a requirement as of yet.
Forward-facing seat- A child in a forward-facing seat must be at least one-year old and between 20 and 40 pounds. Some models can accommodate heavier children.
Booster seat- children from about age four to age 8 must be placed in a booster seat, unless 4 feet, 9 inches tall.
Safety Belt- A child wearing a safety belt must be at least 8 years of age or 4 feet, 9 inches tall
Note: The safest place in a vehicle is the rear-center seat. Any questions about car seat safety? call WellSpan Community Health Improvement 717-851-3231
new format to LJM Newsletter
Following the school district’s lead in creating an ePub for the “Paw Prints”, LJM has issued it’s first digital document. The December newsletter has been posted and future newsletters will follow the same format. Click here to see the new digital copy.
New Seat Belt Law
As a public service to all LJM families, we feel compelled to share with you the changes to seat belt laws that impact children in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that will take effect December 24, 2011. All drivers and passengers in vehicles MUST wear seat belts and failure to do so can result in a primary violation – a vehicle can be pulled over and cited for a seat belt infraction. Further, all paved areas (that vehicles use) on public school property are considered highways. Drivers can be cited on these areas for not wearing seat belts or having passengers who are not wearing seat belts.
Information has been provided by Officer Peter Montgomery, Crime Prevention Unit, York Area Regional Police Dept.
